Mechanic I, DEN

Location: Denver CO

Job Overview And Responsibilities

The United Catering Operations Mechanic I is responsible for the on-going maintenance, repair and upkeep of the facility and equipment in support of the daily airline and retail operation in a 150,000 sq. ft. flight kitchen. This position is responsible for performing daily checks and inspections on all facility and equipment. This position is expected to comply with all United training requirements, safety procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Additionally, the Mechanic I will participate in safety meetings and support of the Safety Action Team.

  • Conduct a daily inspection of the facility and equipment taking corrective action as needed (e.g. maintenance shop, boiler room, electrical rooms, cooling tower, coolers and freezers, Hot Foods, Warehouse, Ice Plant, docks, Dish Room, Compactor Room, cardboard baler, restrooms and locker rooms, office areas, roof, building exterior and lighting)
  • Perform daily checks and record readings for boiler, water softener and PH water treatment; recording meter readings and temperatures for electric, gas and water
  • Troubleshoot minor maintenance problems involving HVAC, electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment repair or replacement (e.g. slicing machines, sealers, tilt skillets, refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
  • Perform monthly preventive maintenance on facility and associated systems and kitchen equipment (e.g. AHU, MAU, RTU, exhaust fans, dish machines, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, emergency eyewash, EPA requirements, Ice Plant)
  • Complete work orders assigned by Maintenance Coordinator, Lead and/or manager
  • Operate Ice Plant and ice bagger equipment to produce product for daily operation
  • Performs preventive building maintenance such as repairing standard doors, dock roll-up doors, air curtains, and cooler and freezer doors; electrical repairs such as replacing small motors and pumps, sensors, replacing equipment electrical cords, changing and/or repair of lighting; plumbing repairs such as drain problems and water leaks; repair of floors walls and ceiling including tile work
  • Paint interior floors, walls and parking lot restriping as needed
  • Operate company vehicles, catering trucks, forklifts, stock pickers, scissor lifts and electrical pallet jacks; refuels vehicles with CNG, diesel, gas and/or propane
  • Compy with all Federal (including OSHA, USDA, FDA, HAACP and EPA), State and Denver International Airport City and County regulations associated with the facility
  • Perform snow removal of parking lot and sidewalks with use of shovel, snow blower and/or snow plow truck
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required

  • High School Diploma, General Education Equivalent (GED) or education equivalent
  • Working knowledge in one or more trades related to building maintenance and repair (e.g. auto mechanics, boiler maintenance, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration or general building repairs, and of the machinery, equipment and tools necessary for the maintenance and repair of buildings
  • Skill in reading and following blueprints and assembly instructions, following safety practices and recognizing hazards

  • You will start by loading and unloading aircraft and placing baggage on belts.
  • We provide paid training, including 1 week of orientation, 1 week in the classroom and 1-3 weeks on the job.
  • Once you’ve got the basics, you can explore other duties such as de-icing, marshaling aircraft and driving a wide variety of mechanical equipment like cargo carts and conveyor belts.
