Southwest Airlines cancellation policy regarding COVID 19 pandemic, everyone’s lives have been changed in a way and especially the aviation industry has been severely impacted since passengers are compelled to change or cancel their flights. Regardless of how much the airline is facing loss, they are trying their best to accommodate their passenger’s demand and situation.

For passengers whose travel plans have been affected by the COVID 19 pandemic, the airline is allowing a free cancellation till 10 minutes prior to their scheduled departure. Those passengers who cancelled because of the pandemic will be given an airline credit/voucher or also known as travel funds. You can use travel funds in your upcoming booking for the passenger who originally booked the reservation. Passengers are required to book a new reservation with the travel fund before it expires.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES 24 HOURS FREE CANCELLATION POLICY

There is a free cancellation policy 24 hours after the booking is made regardless of the fare type that is refundable and non-refundable booking provided that the ticket is bought 7 days before departure.

If you have a business ticket/ anytime ticket also known as a refundable ticket, you will be given a choice to choose either a refund or a travel fund/credit when cancelled. If your ticket is Wanna Get Away Trip also known as non-refundable booking, your value of the ticket will be kept as a travel fund or a credit when cancelled. You can use this credit in your next booking.

If passengers have to make cancellations due to extenuating circumstances like a death in a family, medical issues, judicial order, government order, etc., the airline will try their best to be considerate and be understanding towards the passenger. Hence, passengers may ask for a refund in case of non-refundable booking as an exception. It may be given to you provided that the necessary documents in question asked by the airline are given by the passenger.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES NO-SHOW POLICY

If a passenger fails or forgets to cancel before his/her departure time regardless of the fare type, he/she will be marked as a no-show. No passenger is eligible for a voucher/credit if they are marked as a no-show. The whole value of the ticket will be forfeited and you shall not get anything. So, passengers are kindly requested to make sure to change or cancel it before your departure date and time based on your fare type.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES REFUND POLICY

Southwest Airlines allows eligible passengers to request for a refund in the way it was booked. It means a passenger who booked with the airline directly through calls, app or website has to contact the airline to ask for a refund And those passengers who booked it with a third party have to contact those particular third parties to seek for a refund.
Passenger will be refunded an amount  depending on their fare type, time and date of cancelling, etc.

If there is any refund owed to you by the airline, the latter will make the refund to your account with which you booked with. It normally takes 7 business days but passengers are requested to be patient with the airline if there is any delay. The delay is caused by the huge number of passengers contacting the airline to cancel and asking for refunds because of the pandemic.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES CANCELLATION STEPS

Passengers can make cancellations in a few ways. You can choose to cancel it by yourself on the airline’s official website or app. You can also opt to contact the airline’s reservation team to cancel your reservation. Not only that, you can cancel it with a third party if you booked your reservation with them.

 Passengers are suggested to follow these steps in order to cancel online or on app:

-First of all, log in

-Secondly, go to “My Trip”/ “My Booking”

-Select the ticket which you want to cancel

-Press on cancellation

-Confirm the cancellation of ticket

-After your trip is canceled, you can claim a refund if you are eligible

If you are eligible for a refund, you will get your refund according to your mode of payment and to the account with which you paid for your flight. The airline usually takes 7-10 business days to make the refund.

If you are cancelling by calling the airline, you need to call Southwest Airline customer service number +18004359792. You will be asked for your confirmation code, first name and last name to verify your reservation. And there, you can simply tell the reservation team’s agent whoever is assisting you to cancel certain flights for you. And while you are at it, you can check with them if your ticket is eligible for a refund. You can ask them any doubts and query you have related to your ticket.
