Avianca airlines, just like any other airline, is overwhelmed by what is happening because of the pandemic. They are trying their best to accommodate their passengers in the best possible way. Passengers are given some choice when it comes to change and cancel their flights. Check out the various Avianca Airlines cancellation policy.
1) If you booked a flight by 21 August 2020 to fly between 4 March 2020 to 31 October 2020, you can change your departure date until 31 December 2021. You can make this change in the same class without paying any additional price for all routes.
If you rebook it before 30 November 2020, you will not have to pay a fare difference even if it is there on the same route. If you book it after 1 December 2020, you will pay a fare difference if there is any on the same route.
Also, you can make multiple changes before 30 November 2020 but just once after 1 December 2020.
2) If you booked a flight by 4 March 2020 and 31 August 2020 regardless of the date of departure, you can change your departure date until 31 December 2021. You can make this change in the same class without paying any additional price for all routes.
If you rebook it before 30 November 2020, you will not have to pay a fare difference even if it is there on the same route. If you book it after 1 December 2020, you will pay a fare difference if there is any on the same route.
Also, you can make multiple changes before 30 November 2020 but just once after 1 December 2020.
3) If you booked a flight by 1 to 31 September 2020 regardless of the date of departure,
-For all routes operated by Avianca except domestic routes in Colombia and Ecuador, flights between North and Central America and flights between Central American countries, you can change your departure date until 31 December 2021.
You can make this change in the same class without paying any additional price for all routes.
If you rebook it before 30 November 2020, you will not have to pay a fare difference even if it is there on the same route. If you book it after 1 December 2020, you will pay a fare difference if there is any on the same route.

7) If you booked a flight by 1 July 2021 and 31 August 2021 regardless of the date of departure, you can change your departure date until 31 December 2021. You can make this change in the same class without paying any change fee for all routes.

AVIANCA AIRLINES 24 HOURS FREE CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellation can be made in the way it was booked. For instance, if you booked online, you can cancel it online, if you booked through a third party you have to cancel through that third party, and if you booked with the airline directly, you can cancel it with the airline themselves.
Avianca provides free cancellation for 24 hours within booking regardless of fare rules. Whether your booking is a refundable or non-refundable booking, until and unless you fall under the free cancellation time frame, you are entitled to cancellation without any charge.
AVIANCA CANCELLATION POLICY IN NORMAL TIMES
If you cancel after 24 hours of your reservation, you will be charged a cancellation fee. And if your fare is a refundable type, the remaining value of the ticket will be refunded to you after deducting the cancellation fee.
However, if you have a booking that is non-refundable, the value of the ticket will be forfeited and you will not get a refund. Passenger’s cancellation fee is not only determined by the fare rule/type but is also determined by the date of departure, the number of tickets, points of departure, etc.
AVIANCA AIRLINES PASSENGER INVOLUNTARY CANCELLATION
If a passenger is cancelling because of any extenuating circumstances like a death in a family, sickness, any medical issues, judicial order, strikes, government order etc., there will be no cancellation fee charged to him/her. The passenger just needs to provide the documents that the airline will want as proof.
AVIANCA AIRLINES DELAY AND AIRLINE CANCELLATION
If Avianca airline delays or cancels passengers flights for any reason, a different scheduled flight will be given to the passenger by the airline. It is absolutely the passenger’s wish to accept that or not. They have the option of accepting the scheduling adjustment or requesting a credit instead.

Avianca Airlines gives compensation according to the reason for the delay and distance of the journey. There may be differences according to the reason for the delay however, the general amounts are mentioned under:
-For a flight distance of less than 1500 km, here shall be a refund of 250 Euro.
-For a flight distance of 1500 km – 3500 km, there shall be a refund of 400 Euro.
-For a flight distance of beyond 3500 km, here shall be a refund of 600 Euro.
To be eligible for compensation upon airline cancellation, you need to follow some timelines. You will be eligible
-If a passenger’s flight is cancelled less than 14 days before departure
- If a passenger’s flight is cancelled 1-13 days before departure and your rescheduled flight is supposed to reach your destination more than 4 hours late.
- If a passenger’s flight is cancelled less than 7 days before departure and your rescheduled flight is supposed to reach your destination more than 2 hours late.
AVIANCA AIRLINES NO-SHOW POLICY
Any passenger who does not cancel before the departure time, regardless of fare kind, will be considered a no-show.
If a passenger is designated as a no-show, they are not eligible for reimbursement.
The entire amount of the ticket will be forfeited, and you will receive nothing, so please cancel it before your departure date and time, as determined by your fare type.
REFUND POLICY
Avianca Airlines allows eligible passengers to request a refund in the way it was booked. In other words, if you booked through a third party, a request has to be made to that third party, and if you booked with the airline, the airline will make the refund for you.
The amount of the refund will be determined by the fare type, the time and date of cancellation, and other factors. Please be aware that all types of fares are eligible for airport and security taxes to be refunded. Service fees, on the other hand, are non-refundable.
If there is any refund owed to you by the airline, the latter will make the refund to your account with which you booked. It normally takes 30 business days but passengers are requested to be patient with the airline if there is any delay. Because of the epidemic, a large number of travellers have cancelled their flights and requested refunds.
CANCELLATION STEPS
Passengers can make cancellations in a few ways. On the airline’s official website or app, you may cancel it yourself. You can either contact the airline’s reservation staff to have it cancelled for you or just cancel it through the third-party with whom you made your reservation.
If you want to cancel your reservation online or on the app, you are suggested to follow these steps:

-Click on the “My Trip”/ “My Booking” button.
-Choose the reservation that you wish to cancel from the available reservations
-Press on cancellation
-Confirm the cancellation of your ticket by clicking “Yes”
-After your trip is cancelled, in case of eligibility you can file for a refund.
If you are entitled to a refund, it will be processed within 7-10 business days, depending on your payment method and the account used to pay for your ticket.
If you are cancelling by calling the airline, you need to call Avianca Airlines customer service number +18002842622. You will need to give your confirmation code, first name and last name to the airline’s agent to verify your reservation.
