Emirates Airlines Cancellation Policy

With the COVID 19 pandemic overwhelming the entire aviation industry, every airline is facing a loss and every airline is taking measures to stop the loss as much as it can. In doing so, they also consider what their passengers are going through and what loss they can face if the airline doesn’t do anything generous for them. Emirates airlines is one of the most generous airlines in the market at the moment when it comes to what options are given to the passengers by the airlines. These are the cancellation policy of Emirates Airlines.

Passengers normally used to pay a change or cancellation fee and not be eligible for a refund if they change or cancel after 24 hours of booking and it is less than 7 days before departure. However, with the COVID 19 pandemic, Emirates has introduced a much more flexible policy.

Emirates is very generous when it comes to a flight changed or canceled by them, if any destination has travel restriction or mandatory quarantine policy, travel warnings, stay-at-home orders, etc. You can change your ticket for free if this following condition applies to you:

Booking is made before 30 September 2020,

Your travel begins on or after 31 March 2021,

If your booking is made after October 2020, you will not pay a change fee and you can choose a different destination.  However, to avoid paying any fare difference, your class/cabin must be available on your new flight.

If your booking is to depart on or before 31 March 2021, you have the options given under:

-to change your departure date to 24 months ahead without any change fee or fare difference.

-to change your destination to a different Emirates destination provided that they are in the same region.

You cannot change your booking class be it economy, business or first. The same regulations will apply to a new booking made until 30 September 2020.

The most crucial requirement is that your first segment on the ticket is for, on, or before 31 March 2021.

If your ticket is issued from 1 April 2021, your ticket can automatically be extended for 24 months.

And this deadline may be extended anytime by the airline in the future. Additionally, your ticket can be put on hold for up to 760 days after issuance. This will make your ticket valid to be changed or altered at a later point and even after 24 months, you can seek to get a full refund instead of flying.

Emirates gives a voucher worth the price you paid for your booking. It will be valid for 1 year and can be extended for 1 more year. Please note that after the first year, you can opt to receive its value as a refund. Since 14 April 2020, Emirates has been offering full refunds regardless of the fare rules. Before this, Emirates did not entertain any request for a monetary refund. Those customers who have chosen to keep their tickets for a travel voucher are given a choice to apply for a refund with no penalty if they are unable to travel.

At the moment, Emirates has stopped giving vouchers since you can change it or ask for a refund.

Emirates the airline provides free cancellation for 24 hours within booking regardless of fare rules. It is for refundable bookings, as long as you fall under the free cancellation time frame, you are entitled to cancelation without any charge.

If you cancel a non-refundable Emirates Airlines Ticket Booking within 24 hours, you will be refunded the amount after deducting 200 USD.

For refundable booking, if you cancel after 24 hours of booking, there will be a cancellation penalty of 200 USD charged to you. The remaining value of the booking will be refunded to you after deducting the cancellation fee.

However, if your booking is of non-refundable type, and if you cancel it after 24 hours, your value of the booking will be forfeited and you shall not get a refund. The value will be kept as an airline point/credit which you can use again in your future booking.

Passenger’s cancellation fee is not only determined by the fare rule/type but is also determined by the date of departure, the number of tickets, points of departure, etc. The cancellation fee will be charged per passenger if there is more than 1 passenger in the booking.

Your cancellation fee amount will be decided by our fare, canceling date, and departure date.
-If you cancel 45 days before departure: 250 USD
-If you cancel 44-31 days before departure: 30% of your fare
-if you cancel 44-21 days before departure: 50% of your fare
-If you cancel 30-15 days before departure: 60% of your farE
-If you cancel 44-20 days before departure: 100% of your fare

If a passenger is canceling because of any extenuating circumstances like a death in a family, sickness, any medical issues, judicial order, strikes, government order, etc., there will be no cancellation fee charged to him/her. The passenger simply needs to provide the documents that the airline will want as proof.

There are times when the airline delays or cancels a passenger’s flight for some reason, and in cases like that, the airline will make a schedule change for the passenger and passengers can choose to accept that or not. They can choose to accept the schedule change or ask for credit instead.

In a case like this, the airline can name some factual situations as the reason for cancellation. For instance, there can be a natural calamity, state emergency, security concerns, operation failure, lack of passengers, issues with the pilots, mechanical error, etc.

Emirates airlines give compensation according to the reason for delay and distance of the journey. There may be differences according to the reason for the delay however, the general amounts are mentioned under:

-For a flight distance of less than 1500 km, here shall be a refund of 250 Euro.

-For a flight distance of 1500 km – 3500 km, there shall be a refund of 400 Euro.

-For a flight distance of beyond 3500 km, here shall be a refund of 600 Euro.

Any passenger who does not cancel before the departure time, regardless of fare kind, will be considered a no-show. If a passenger is designated as a no-show, they are not eligible for reimbursement. The value of the ticket will be taken by the airline and you will not get anything, make sure to cancel before the date and time of departure according to your flight schedule.

Emirates Airlines allows eligible passengers to ask for a refund in the same way as it was booked. For instance, if you booked your reservation through a third party, you should make a request for a refund to that third party, and if you booked your reservation with the airline, the airline will make the refund for you.

The refund amount depends on the type of your ticket, cancellation time and date, etc.
Please note that security tax and airport tax are refundable for all types of fares. However, the service fee also known as the administration fee is not refundable.

If there is any refund owed to you by the airline, the latter will make the refund to your account with which you booked. It normally takes 7-10 business days but passengers are requested to be patient with the airline if there is any delay. Affected by the epidemic, a large number of passengers canceled and demanded refunds.
