With the COVID 19 Pandemic hitting the aviation industry Qatar Airways have been facing many losses in different aspects. Passengers are equally affected by the pandemic and the airline is doing its best to provide the best service which will suit the circumstances.

Passengers who are facing an issue travelling are given few options.

*Passengers can get a non-refundable voucher worth 10% more than its actual fare upon canceling. If you have an unused ticket, you will get a voucher worth the full amount plus 10%. However, if you have a partially used ticket, you will get a voucher worth the unused flight segment. You may use this voucher in your future booking and will have to pay a fare difference if any.

*Passengers are also allowed to cancel with a refund instead of a voucher. You will be given a full refund upon requesting the airline.

Do keep in mind that cancellation can be made in the way it was booked. For example, if you booked online, you have to cancel it online, if you booked through a third party, you have to cancel through that third party, and if you booked with the airline directly, you have to cancel with the airline themselves.


For passengers who are flying to/from the US, there is a 24 hours free cancellation policy after booking provided that the booking is done 7 days before departure.  It doesn’t not matter whether it is a refundable or non-refundable booking, as long as you fall under the free cancellation time frame, you are entitled for a cancelation without any charge. But once payment is processed and a ticket is issued, standard fare rules will apply.

For other regular passengers, this free 24-hour cancelation period applies only when they booked their ticket directly with the airline or through their official website and not through a third party. This applies to both refundable and non-refundable booking. Till you fall under this time frame you can cancel your flight as per your need.


If anyone cancels after and outside the 24 hours free cancellation policy, there shall be a cancellation fee. Cancellation fee will depend upon your fare type, date of cancellation and departure, number of tickets, etc.


 If a passenger is cancelling because of any extenuating circumstances like death in a family, sickness, any medical issues, judicial order, strikes, government order etc., there will be no cancellation fee charged to him/her. The passenger only has to give the documents which the airline will ask for as evidence.


If the airline delays or cancels your flight for any reason, you will be given an alternative to fly another time and it is up to the traveler to accept or reject that. One can choose to accept compensation instead. However, if you reach your destination 2-4 hours later than the promised time, you shall be given 50% of the compensation.

-2 hours delay: You will be eligible for assistance which includes drinks, meals, communications, hotel     accommodation, if necessary, airport transport, etc.

-3 hours delay: You will be eligible to get assistance and financial compensation.

-5 hours or more delay: You will be eligible for a full refund.

In a case like this, the airline can name some factual situation as the reason for cancellation. For instance, there can be natural calamity, state emergency, security concerns, operation failure, lack of passengers, issues with the pilots, mechanical error, etc.


If any passenger fails to cancel before the departure time regardless of the fare type they have, they will be marked as a no-show. No passenger is eligible for a refund if they are marked as a no-show. The whole value of the ticket will be forfeited and you shall not get anything so, please make sure to cancel it before your departure date and time based on your fare time.


Passengers who booked directly with the airline can seek a refund from the airline’s website where a refund form is given. And any refund will be made to the same account which you used during your booking of reservation.

Passengers who made their payment by credit card and are owed a refund by Viva Aerobus, the latter will make the refund in 7 business days in normal times. And if the passenger made the payment by check or cash, the refund will be made in 20 business days. However, since many people are cancelling because of the pandemic, there are too many refunds to be made. Passengers are requested by the airline to be patient and understand them if there is any delay.


Passengers can make cancellations in a few ways. You can cancel it by yourself on the airline’s official website or app. You can also contact the airline’s reservation team to cancel it for you or you can simply cancel it through a third party with whom you booked your reservation.

If a passenger wants to cancel online or on app, we suggest you to follow these steps:

-First of all, log in

-Skip the login process if you already have the airline account

-Tap on the button “My Trip”/ “My Booking”

-Choose the booking which you want to cancel from the available flights

-Press on cancellation

-Confirm the cancellation from the pop–up message by clicking “Yes”

-After your trip is canceled, you can claim a refund if you are eligible

If you are eligible for a refund, you will get it in 7-10 business days according to your mode of payment and to the account with which you paid for your flight.

If you are cancelling by calling the airline, you need to call XXXXXXXXXXX. You will be asked for your confirmation code, first name and last name to verify your reservation. And there, you can simply tell the reservation team’s agent whoever is assisting you to cancel certain flights for you. And while you are at it, you can check with them if your ticket is eligible for a refund. You can ask them any doubts and query you have related to your ticket.
