Sunwing Airlines Check-In Policy

Checking in at the airport for your next holiday flight should be a convenient and relaxing experience. Keeping that in mind Sunwing Airlines gives its passengers an ample three-hour check-in window prior to the scheduled flight departure. The boarding time for the flight closes about an hour prior to the scheduled departure. The airlines for the sake of convenience requests passengers to check-in early so that they have ample time for security checks and baggage check-ins.

Passengers are allowed for boarding latest before 30 minutes prior to the flight’s scheduled departure, after which gates will be closed and no further check-in or boarding will be entertained.

Upon missing of allotted time slot, passenger’s seat may be re-allotted, denied boarding alongside ineligibility for compensation.

Covid19 and Vaccination

Fully vaccinated travellers on arrival in Canada may be chosen at random for testing, during testing passengers will not be required to self-isolate themselves.

Passengers are advised to make sure that they have filled all necessary health declarations prior to their arrival at the airport.

Web Check-Ins

Web check-in starts 24 hours prior to the flight’s scheduled departure. Passengers can opt for web check-in to avoid lines and congestion at the airport. 

Online check-in closes 60 minutes prior to the flight’s scheduled departure. With web check-in facilities passengers can also get the e-boarding pass, check-in any baggage or also buy extra baggage allowance if needed.

All passengers flying with Sunwing Airline are allowed to carry one carry-on item and one personal item with them into the cabin while boarding. The carry-on item being carried by the passenger should not exceed a maximum weight of 5 kilograms or 11 pounds and no larger than 23cms x 40cms x 51cms.

Personal item should not be any larger than 23 cm x 28 cm x 13 cm.

– Musical Item must be within the specified dimension of 23 cm x 41 cm x 51 cm (9” x 16” x 20”) and not weigh more than 5kgs. Additional costs will be applicable if the allotted weight and is exceeded. Limited release form releasing Sunwing in case of damage at time of check-in has to be signed.

– Firearms and hunting equipment can only be sent as checked baggage provided that all necessary documents and licenses are declared and provided.

Unaccompanied Minor Program

Children flying alone between the age of 5 to 11 are all eligible for Sunwing’s Unaccompanied Minors Program. The program is designed to make travel experience relaxing and stress free for both the child and the parents.

Children between the age of 5 to 11 years can be accompanied by another companion aged 16 and above without having the need of enrolling for the Unaccompanied Minors Program.

To register your child for the program, registration has to be made at least 12 hours prior to departure by calling 1-877-SUNWING and cannot be applied for online or at the check-in counter.

The program will incur a cost of $50 and can only be availed for flights that do not involve changing or connecting flights.

For domestic travel within Canada the child must present a Birth Certificate, Health Card, Passport and an ID issued by the Government.

For International travel the child must be in possession of a valid passport.

The guardian is advised to reach at least three hours prior along with their child for international flights and at least two-hours prior for domestic flights. The guardian must also be present at the airport for at least 30 minutes after the departure of the flight.

Pet Policy

Sunwing Airlines welcomes all Service Dogs and Emotional Support dogs on board. All other animals are however not accepted. Travelling with Service Dogs or Emotional Support Dog shall require:

 Additional forms and documentation such as training certification, updated vaccine records and/or physician’s letters are required.

 Different countries have different requirements, so make sure you are familiar with any requirements for your specific destination.

 Your dog will be required to travel at your feet (not on a seat) and you will be required to be seated by the window.

 Your dog must be properly harnessed.

 Dogs that pose a threat to the health and safety of the cabin crew or other guests will be denied boarding.

If you are booking a hotel or resort, we recommend that you contact the property prior to booking to make sure they accept service dogs and emotional support dogs.

Service Dog Requirements

All the required documents have to be sent at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the flight. 2 copies of each document is suggested.

 A declaration/certificate stating the dog has completed Service Dog training.

 A registered identification card or other documents identifying the person with the disability and their service dog.

Up-to-date vaccination records.

Emotional Support Dogs

For passengers travelling with Emotional Support Dogs they must make sure to fill the Special Service Form with an original medical letter from a mental health professional stating:

 The person who prepared the document is a licensed mental health professional and you are currently under their care, with information on the professional’s license (including the type of license, date issued and the issuing authority).

 You have a mental or emotional disorder recognized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV).

You need your dog for emotional or psychiatric support during travel and/or in destination. The copy of the medical letter has to be submitted at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the flight for approval of request.
