How to Cancel Flights with American Airline

At American Airlines the passenger from the time of booking/reservation have up to 24 hours to

cancel and refund their tickets if booked at least 2 days prior to the date of the scheduled departure.

This 24-hour cancellation policy is applicable for ticket types but is only applicable under the

condition of cancellation of the entire trip.

It is also important to note that group reservations do not qualify for this 24-hour refund policy.

Refundable Reservations

All refundable tickets booked through the official American Airlines website will be completely

eligible for a refund and will be reverted back to the passenger’s original mode of payment within 7

days if paid through Credit Card (it should reflect in the passenger’s statement within 1-2 billing

cycles). For payments made through Cash and Cheques the passenger will be refunded the

complete amount 20 days from the day of receiving of refund requests.

For all bookings done through external 3rd party travel agents passengers can revert back to them for

the refund.

Non-Refundable Reservations

At American Airlines passengers with non-refundable tickets are only entitled to a refund under the

the circumstance that the booking gets canceled within the first 24 of purchase.

Under other circumstances, like the death of the passenger/traveling companion, scheduled change/delay of

more than 4 hours and change military duty or orders may also qualify for a refund. The value

amount will be refunded back to the original mode of payment of the passenger.

Passengers may also be entitled for refund of certain taxes included in the fare ticket and can be

availed through written requests on taxes and fees that are not directly imposed by American

Airlines that are area-specific. In case American Airlines is obligated to refund regardless of travel,

taxes and fees will not be part of the amount refunded. Amount refunded will all be reverted back to

the original mode of payment.

Passengers flying with American Airlines who cancel their non-refundable tickets before the

scheduled of their first flight can apply the tickets unused value and use it for future travels. The

passenger however has to make sure to cancel the original ticket before its departure or the ticket

loses all its value and cannot be put forward for future travel. The value derived from the

non-refundable ticket has to be availed within one year from the issue of the original ticket.

How to Cancel or Modify Reservations

Passengers can now cancel or modify their trips online on the official American Airlines website by

following these simple steps:

Step 1: Find Your Trip. For this step, the passenger requires to have their 6-chararacter alphabetic

confirmation code a.k.a. Record Locator.

For customers who do not remember their 6-character

alphabetic confirmation code they can find it in their confirmation email that they received while

booking their reservation.

Step 2: Passengers then can choose to either Cancel or Modify their trips based on the option

prompts displayed on the screen.

Step 3: After the previous step is completed American Airlines will get back to on your email with

relevant information including your ticket number. Passengers can also keep this email handy for

future reference.

For passengers with AAdvantage that had their account listed in the reservation

before cancellation of their flights can log into their personal account and check the credited Flight

value in their wallet.

Pointers Worth Noting

-Passengers can book their tickets two hours before any scheduled flight departure, for any

flight that departs within less than 2 hours, it is advised to contact the tickets counter at the

airport.

-Passengers can get their American Airlines ticket booked up to 331 days in advance

-American Airlines fliers can book in one reservations tickets for up to 6 passengers on the

official American Airlines website. For groups exceeding 10 passengers it is advised to

-Most major credit and debit cards are accepted by American Airlines but for all purposes
