What started in the 1970s as a yacht club by Joe Hocher, turned into Watermakers Inc. in 1981 and then into Makers Air by 2005 as we know it today. Makers Air offers regular scheduled flights and private charters into the island of Bahamas and also provides hotel recommendations and provides local excursions. 

The airline is based off of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and focuses on helping customers in getting a tailored experience with emphasis on services that connects them to the Out Islands.

Private Charter

Flight Schedules

Makers Air also provides regular Scheduled Flights and in comparison to other airlines in the industry provides more flights to out islands in the Bahamas.

Customers can get their tickets booked from Makers Air’s official website from the Flight Reservations menu. Passengers can also book reservations by calling (954) 771-0330. All payments are to be made in full to secure tickets for travel.

 

All tickets/reservations made with Makers Air are Non-Refundable and unused services are also non-refundable. The right to refund in case of cancellation or change is also limited. Changes and cancellations may be made up to at least 8 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the flight. Change fees levied are as follows:

  • No change fee is charged for changes made up to 14 days prior to the scheduled flight departure.
  • A fee of $75 is charged for changes made between 8 to 13 days prior to the scheduled departure.
  • A fee of $100 is charged for changes made between 2 to 7 days prior to the scheduled departure.
  • A fee of $150 is charged for changes made about 8 hours prior to the scheduled departure.
    • If changes are made within 8 hours of departure, then the passenger forfeits the ticket.

    The change or cancellation will then be reflected in the reservation and the remaining value of the ticket will then be moved to the passenger’s profile which can be used for rebooking tickets for the next travel. The travel has to be made within 12 months from the day of cancellation.

    No Credit will be issued for a cancellation made within 24 hours of the scheduled departure of the flight.

Makers Air Check in

Passengers flying with Makers Air are requested to check-in at least 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of the flight. Fight boarding will stop 20 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. Passengers who fail to meet the deadline must forfeit their seat and are not qualified for availing refunds. Passengers who check-in but are unable to board the flight 20 minutes prior to scheduled departure will be categorized as “No-Show” and will not be entitled for refunds.

All passengers must make sure that they have valid passports in their possession at the time of check-in.

Makers Air Baggage Policy

With Makers Air each ticketed passenger gets a free baggage allowance of up to 40lbs, that will include a personal item for carry as well. Anything above the stipulated weight shall incur an additional charge of $1.75 Excess Baggage Fee per pound. 

There is however no surety provided by the airline that the passenger’s excess baggage shall be accepted and will be placed under the criteria of availability of space. All passengers that anticipate having extra baggage are advised to contact [email protected] to get other options for transporting your baggage.

 

All items carried or flown unaccompanied are liable for any relevant duties and taxes that have to be fulfilled by the passengers by themselves in full.

Makers Air Pet Policy

Pets can travel aboard Makers Air flight at a cost of $35 or $2.00 per pound, in case of whichever is greater. Pets aboard the flight must be confined inside FAA approved carriers for the safety and convenience of the flight, passengers and crew. Passengers must make sure to bring their own crate or rent one from the airline at a fee of $25 each way 

It is mandatory for all pets to get a permit from the Department of Agriculture in the Bahamas before entering the Bahamas. Their phone number is 242-325-7502 or 7509.

The process can take up to two weeks and passengers are hence recommended to plan appropriately.

Makers Air Unaccompanied Minor Policy

Minors can travel unaccompanied but must have a notarized permission letter consented upon by both parents with signature. 

A copy of this letter has to be e-mailed to the Reservations team at least 24 hours in advance at [email protected].

Makers Air Travel Documents

All passengers must make sure that they have in possession a valid passport at all times to travel to and from the United States. Passengers without a valid passport shall be denied boarding and will not be entertained for a refund.

Covid 19 Restrictions for entering Bahamas

  • Unvaccinated fliers are required to take an RT-PCR COVID-19 test within three days of arrival from an accredited lab
  • Vaccinated fliers need to upload their Vaccination card along with a negative result from a Rapid Antigen Test.
  • Children between the age of 2-11 years of age are required to upload a negative COVID report either taken from an RT-PCR or Rapid Antigen test within 3 days before travel.
  • Travellers arriving by sea must produce a valid international Travel Health Visa from the official Bahamas website and provide either a COVID-19 negative report or a certificate of full vaccination.
  • Any person who fails or refuses to take a test is liable to pay a fine of $1000.
