Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens
This garden centre has more than 11,000 square feet of botanical area, making it Illinois’ third largest conservatory. In their interior sunlight conservatory, stroll down gorgeous pedestrian paths lined with bright tropical plants, or enjoy their annual orchid exhibit in the winter. Alternatively, take a stroll through their beautiful outdoor garden, which features sculptures, patio spots, and even a lagoon.
Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Rockford
A waterpark is a great place to cool off and ride some slides while avoiding the summer heat. There are activities for people of all ages, including a tiny pool for kids and a large drop slide for teens and adults. Throughout the park, you’ll find food, drinks, lockers, and cabana rentals. It’s a great activity for the whole family, especially if you want to keep them occupied while travelling.

Rockford Art Museum
The Rockford Art Museum, opened in the late 1800s, is a facility dedicated to presenting contemporary American art and teaching the public about artists. The museum features a permanent collection of about 2000 paintings, sculptures, glasswork, photographs, and other works of art from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Burpee Museum of Natural History
The interactive science exhibits at the Burpee Museum of Natural History span four floors. Their goal is to encourage children and adults to learn about the natural environment. Real dinosaur skeletons, a carboniferous coal forest recreation, and displays illustrating the lives of northern Illinois’ indigenous peoples are among the exhibits.
Anderson Japanese Gardens
The Anderson Japanese Gardens is one of Illinois’ most serene settings for a nice walk on manicured grounds. Among the many diverse coloured plants and gardens are landscaped waterfalls, strolling routes, and structures like gazebos, pavilions, and tea houses. Throughout the spring, summer, and fall, the gardens host a number of activities, including a Japanese Summer Festival and Tuesday Evenings in the Gardens.
